PedPal - Robotics Institute Carnegie Mellon University

The Intelligent Coordination and Logistics Lab at the The Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University has been developing and field testing a smartphone app called PedPal in conjunction with pathVu, a University of Pittsburgh-based start-up.

PedPal has been developed to assist pedestrians with disabilities and/or mobility challenges to safely cross signalized intersections. The PedPal app allows its user to communicate directly with the intersection to indicate how much time is needed for crossing.

This work is funded by the Mobility21 National UTC a US Department of Transportation University Transportation Center
