NREC collaborated with the Toro Company to develop a prototype autonomous mower that can be used in the maintenance of a golf course, sports field or commercial landscape. NREC scientists and engineers developed a robotic mower that can mow a golf course autonomously, safely and precisely, while sensing and avoiding small obstacles (like golf balls) reliably. Automated mowing reduces the need for human operators, allowing them to concentrate on other tasks for optimization of labor costs. The system also reduces the need to operate mowers during peak golfing hours, resulting in a more pleasant golfing experience.
