Overview
To develop electric vehicles (EVs) that are as efficient and cost-effective as possible, we have taken a systems-level approach to design, prototyping, and analysis to produce formally-modeled active vehicle energy management.

Our first year of research (2009) using real-world commute data contributed to our public website, shows that substantial improvement in systems-level cost-of-performance is possible by mating a mixed-rate energy storage system (combining moderate-rate batteries and high-rate supercapacitors) with a control system that predicts the energy needs of the road ahead by exploiting topographic information, traffic history, and specific driver performance motivated by system efficiency feedback.
