Project Description

The Hip Navigation or HipNav system is being developed jointly by West Penn Hospital's Institute for Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (ICAOS) and Carnegie Mellon University to help reduce the risk of dislocation after total hip replacement surgery. The system allows a surgeon to determine the optimal, patient-specific location for an acetabular implant (socket portion of a hip implant), and guides the surgeon to achieve the desired placement during surgery.
