My research interests focus on advancing robot perception and autonomy techniques and applying it to fielded robotic systems. I am particularly interested in deploying mobile robots and associated technology to industrial, mining, and defense applications that improve productivity and/or personnel safety. To this end, I am leading efforts to bring mobile robots into Oil and Gas industry applications to address gaps in current technology, and/or improve safety by removing people from harms way. I have also been leading a technology effort to develop 3D mapping algorithms for use in oil and gas, mining, and other industrial settings. I lead a diverse team on projects at the Robotics Institute, the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC), and Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
