Research interests

My current research focuses on path planning for robotic exploration. Robots like the Mars rover need to be able to autonomously plan a traverse from a start location to a desired goal location, possibly several kilometers away, taking into consideration constraints such as time and available battery capacity. I am currently working on algorithms that enable efficient path planning in multi-dimensional state spaces that include time and energy.

I am also interested in the synergies between technology, education, and development. To this end, I am working on Project Kané, a program of the TechBridgeWorld initiative at Carnegie Mellon. Project Kané explores the role that technology can play in literacy instruction in Ghana, West Africa.
