Research interests

I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Pittsburgh, working towards a PhD in Bioengineering, having previously received a M.S. in Computer Science.

My research interests include:

• Image segmentation and registration, especially clinically-driven applications
• Medical image segmentation systems designed to appeal to the clinical user
• 3D image analysis and visualization
• Interactive systems for medical image analysis and visualization
• Computer vision
• Machine learning
• Medical device design

Under Dr. George Stetten, in the Visualization and Image Analysis Lab (VIALab), my primary focus is on the development of image analysis software in conjunction with the Insight Toolkit (ITK), a project of the National Library of Medicine for which I have been a developer since its inception in early 2000. In this capacity I have developed routines for shape recognition and medial correspondence, and created a novel automated image segmentation framework for my Ph.D. dissertation. Algorithms utilizing this framework are being applied to research towards mechanical modeling of the Right Ventricular Outflow Tract, shape quantification of the amygdala, and modeling of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAAs). In addition to my software research interests, I have developed new designs of the Sonic Flashlight to apply it to 3D ultrasound technology.
