Research interests

Since January 2001 I've been developing the Precision Freehand Sculptor, a tool that lets surgeons cut bone accurately with a handheld tool. The PFS design emphasizes safety and less invasive surgery, while allowing greater accuracy for improved performance of replacement joints.

My advisors are Takeo Kanade and Hagen Schempf.

For more on projects I've done before, please see the work section of my homepage.

Research interest keywords

control, haptics, manipulation, mechatronics, and medical robotics

Past Labs & Groups

Manipulation Lab - The Manipulation Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University investigates fundamental modes of manipulation under uncertainty.
Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery - Researching planning (medical image computing, simulation) and execution (intraoperative sensing and actuation) technologies for computer-assisted surgery.

Past Projects

Precision Freehand Sculpting - We are developing a handheld tool to accurately cut bone for joint replacement surgery.
