I am interested in working with medical tools used in cardiac surgery, specifically in robotics. Currently, I am working on a prototype for the HeartLander robot at the Medical Instrumentation Laboratory. The current prototype has the ability to adhere to the surface of a beating heart in order to perform minimally invasive cardiac surgery. The new prototype I am working on will mimic certain aspects of the current HeartLander. The largest change is that the new version will have on-board motors. The primary goal is to increase the flexibility of the tether attached to the robot by placing the motors inside the robot.
