About the RI Web Site
Goals of RIWeb |
RIWeb development team
The RI web site has been designed to present a complete and current
listing of the people, research, and publications associated with the
Robotics Institute. Additionally, the site serves to inform Internet
visitors of the Institute's educational programs and current
activities.
Specific goals of the site design:
- Continuous and easy maintenance - Keep the
information on the site up to date. Continuously maintain the
information through periodic updates.
- Researchers research Remove the burden of web page
design from individual researchers. Members of RI no longer need to
spend time developing web pages for their labs and projects simply
to make their research visible on the Internet. Researchers should
do research, not web design (unless they want to).
- Multiple views The information on the site should be
accessible in many ways. Someone with no idea of what research
takes place at the RI should be able to find projects in which they
are interested. People who know exactly what they are looking for
should be able to access it quickly.
- Consistent interface The RIWeb maintains a consistent
interface throughout the site. Once users understand the basic
layout of the site, navigation is simple and intuitive. The
information you want is right where you would expect it to be.
- Fast viewing The pages are designed to load quickly. If
you are using a slow link, most of the site is duplicated in a
text-only form that is even faster. We don't waste your time with
useless animated gifs and java applets.
