GENERAL INFORMATION

Travel

The Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University invites you to visit us on the weekend of Saturday-Monday, March 24 - 26, 2012. If you plan to attend, you must notify us by Wednesday, February 29.

U. S. and International Travel

The Robotics Institute will pay for your airfare, lodging, and meals from March 24-26, 2012. You will be expected to arrange your ground transportation before you leave for Pittsburgh and after you return to your destination. If you are traveling from within the United States, Suzanne Muth will make flight reservations for you through CTS International, Inc.Or if you prefer, you may make your own ticket online. However, you should confirm the itinerary and cost with Suzanne prior to purchasing the ticket. If you are traveling internationally, you will need to make your own flight reservations. For international travelers, the Robotics Institute will pay a maximum of $600 for your plane ticket. If you plan to drive, we will also reimburse you for fuel and mileage.

If you plan to visit other schools on the same trip, we will divide the cost equally such that our share does not exceed $600. If you need to make a change to the ticket after it has been issued, please contact Irene at CTS International, Inc. (cts@usaor.net cts@usaor.net, (412) 371-8444) or the agency where you purchased your ticket. It will be your responsibility to cover any additional costs. Please plan to arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to departure, thus avoiding any additional expense to you for a missed flight.

When you arrive at the Pittsburgh International Airport, proceed to the baggage claim area. There is a ground transportation desk if you need assistance. There are several ways to reach Carnegie Mellon University from the airport:

28X Airport Flyer: Cost $3.25. The bus stops on Forbes Avenue in front of Carnegie Mellon University
Super Shuttle: Cost is $25 one-way; $50 round trip; $46 with online reservation. For online reservation, use coupon code 7NQ95 for a $4 discount. Enter Carnegie Mellon University (zip code: 15213) as your stop.
Taxi: Cost is about $50 +tip. Please save all receipts.

Accommodations

Several students have agreed to host you in their homes for the weekend. Your host will get in touch with you after you have confirmed your attendance with Suzanne Muth. If you would prefer to stay in a hotel, please notify Suzanne and she will make the necessary arrangements.

Getting Around

A graduate student, usually your host, will be assigned to you for the weekend to make sure you get to where you need to be.

Dress

Casual. Comfortable shoes suggested on Sunday!

Weather

You may want to check weather.com. March can be somewhat unpredictable. Generally it is still chilly, but in years past we have seen some mild temperatures at the end of March.

Afternoon arrival in Pittsburgh. If you are arriving by air, you will be met at Pittsburgh International Airport by a current Robotics student (most likely your host).
