PhD Students

Students accepted into the Robotics Doctoral Program are awarded a Graduate Fellowship for each academic year until graduation. The fellowship award is renewed as long as the student maintains good standing in the program. It is not necessary to request financial aid.

The Graduate Fellowship includes tuition, activity fees, and a stipend. Any student whose spouse earns less than $200 per month is eligible to receive a supplemental stipend.

Program in Interdisciplinary Educational Research (PIER) - PIER is a CMU program funded starting Fall 2004 by the United States Department of Education to train educational researchers. PIER requires admission to an existing CMU PhD program (such as RI's) as a prerequisite, some additional courses and project work, and a focus on education. PIER offers U.S. citizens or permanent residents up to 5 years of support, including a $30,000 graduate stipend and $10,500 towards tuition. Please see http://www.cmu.edu/pier/ for further information.

Students are encouraged to apply for support from outside Carnegie Mellon (fellowships, foreign government grants, etc.). Finaid is an excellent place to begin a search for additional support. Also, see the Fellowship Resource Advising Center. As an incentive to seek funding from other sources, we award a supplemental stipend to any student who pursues and obtains external funding.

Master's Students

Students in the Master's degree program are expected to be self-supporting, either on their own or through their employer. Research Assistantships may also be available for some students. These pay for all tuition and fees, and carry a supplemental stipend.

Tuition and fee amounts for academic year 2007 - 2008 total $33,694.
